"Success was limited and the only way to go was up. I wanted to be Head Coach so bad, I didn't care about salary, number of assistants, or number of players. I often get asked, "How did you become a Head Coach so young?" or "How can I be in your shoes?" I stare all of these young eager coaches in the eye and say, "be willing to take the job that's not perfect. No job is perfect, and if it was a 'Great Job', it probably wouldn't be open." That was a piece of wisdom my father dropped on me when I was applying for Head Coaching opportunities as a young Coach."
